Ambitious Kitchen Project List

Happy Memorial Day weekend!  And it just so happens to be my birthday weekend as well!  (Let the quick round of 'Happy Birthday' commence.)  So while I don't plan on doing anything particularly productive this weekend, I'm planning an ambitious June in terms of home projects.  Below is my list of projects for the kitchen.  Obviously I won't come close to getting all of these done in June but I'm hoping to cross as many as I can off of my list:

KITCHEN
1) Paint walls grey
2) Spray paint “Kiss the Cook” decor
3) Change cabinet pulls
4) Mail sorter project
5) Pantry organization
6) ikea wall storage system
7) Big things that aren't in my budget right now...

Details:
1) I haven't finalized my paint selection yet, but I'm leaning toward Behr Twilight Gray.  It may be a little too blue and better suited for my bathroom, but you get the general idea - - I want a light grey that'll pop against the white cabinets.
see this here on Behr's website
2) I've had this "Kiss the Cook" decor for several years now and I happen to think it's just cheesy enough for me to love it.  However, the red color doesn't work for the house anymore since I've slowly been converting everything to a grey & yellow theme in the kitchen and living room.  (Open concept.)  So this will be an easy project - - I just want to spray paint the sign from red to.....??  Black? Yellow?  I think black, I don't want to go too overboard with the grey & yellow theme.

3) The cabinet handles we currently have on our kitchen cabinets are fine, but aren't necessarily my taste.  I want to replace the handles with these from ikea.  I'll need 10 sets of 2, so that's about $70.  That's a pretty good price but I'm hoping to buy new living room furniture this summer so even just the $70 splurge may have to wait.  (Unless I find that elusive money tree!!)

4) I don't know about you, but mail tends to pile up on our kitchen counter until the pile is too big to ignore.  I need a mail organization system that really works for me.  I bought the wall document holder below from Office Depot thinking that I would spray paint it yellow to match the kitchen and then stencil the words "File," "Pay," & "Shred" in white on each of the sections.

However, I'm thinking I might need to find a different use for the "docupocket" above (maybe something for the hubby's comics) because I fell in love with this bucket from ikea which hangs from a rail also from ikea.  I think I'm going to buy 4 of these buckets & 2 rails to hang vertically, 2 buckets to a rail.  Then I'd like to put decals in yellow that say "File," "Pay," "Shred," & "Open."  That way when the hubs brings in the mail and I'm not there to open & sort (because yes, he does always leave that oh-so-fun job for me) he can dump the mail in the "open" bucket instead of placing it on the counter.  I'm really excited about this project.  This won't be nearly as cheap as my original plan would have been but I think it'll look more polished and I imagine I'll be happier with it in the long run.

5) Unfortunately, my house doesn't have a built-in pantry.  (This is our first house & we were so enamored with the look of the house that we forgot about function - - next house I own a big pantry will be on the must-have list.)  Anywho, to compensate for the lack of pantry, we bought a simple white closet cabinet and it suffices.  It's a mess though - - I need to figure out a better organization system for it.

6) As you know from number 4, I like the ikea wall organization system.  I also want to get some of these bad boys to hang under my cabinets.

7) So because while I thought this would be my 5-7 year house, in fact I think we'll be here for a LONG time.  We bought at the height of the market and now since the housing market has pretty much tanked I think we'll be here for many more years (already been here for 5) unless we suddenly become ok with selling for practically half we bought for.  Soooo, because we're going to be here longer than I originally planned, I'd love to tackle some big projects like new counter tops, changing the lighting, and adding crown molding.  However, this year's big purchase is reserved for living room furniture so these things will just have to remain on my dream list.

Anywho, now you know my big plans for the kitchen!  Basically this post means that I have no completed projects to show you but at least I've been planning!!  (Lazy girl - 1.  Hopefully in June, productive girl will prevail.)
